Upgrading DeltaV is a straight forward task once you follow the exact procedures laid out by Emerson. I have heard of many projects that ran into trouble when the end user tried to migrate the system by themselves. I also know of may users that upgraded by themselves when they had a DeltaV expert with many years of experience to guide the work.

There are hardware considerations, online/offline migration, patching etc.

My advice would be to get your local Emerson Office involved at least in an advisory capacity or engage a system expert to plan the migration. I say this because you are asking where to get the install files. Sounds like you are heading into a world of pain.

The end user can do the bulk of the work if you have the capacity but the migration plan should definitely be prepared by or reviewed and approved by an expert. This would minimize disruption to the plant during the upgrade.

Truth in advertising, I work in an Emerson office. I've also contributed to 100+ upgrades, going back as far as DeltaV 4.

I agree with Steve's statements. I've seen many users get into business/regulatory trouble because they treated a DeltaV upgrade the same way they'd treat a Microsoft Office upgrade.

Even the smallest system I have upgraded (1 workstation and 1 controller) had issues that required realtime troubleshooting and calls to tech support.

Whatever cost you spend on engaging a product expert is well worth it, considering what it may cost you to recover if something goes wrong.

From what I understand from your reply is. You are remote from the site and need to open the site database (v10) on your system (v11) to look at and review the code.
If that is so then you can simply run the fhx file though the migration utility and you should be able to load it on your system. The migration tools can be found on your DeltaV media pack.
As long as you are not trying to upgrade the site system then the issues Ray an I mentioned are not a factor. Note that you can go from v10 to v11 but not the other way around.

If you are just reviewing fine but if you intend sending code back to the site you will need a system that matches the site version.
