DeltaV 13.3.1 virtual EIOC controller

Hello.  I am having an issue with a virtual EIOC card on a 13.3.1. Development system with an SI dongle.  When I use the "VM Builder" tool I can created the virtual EIOC controller, add the DeltaV Primary and Secondary network cards, and ultimately commission the EIOC in DeltaV Explorer.  However, the third network card, which I want to use for Modbus TCP, does not get created.  In the "VM Builder", in the "Virtual Network Configuration" step, the Tertiary card cannot be "checked".

I have been able to make a virtual EIOC controller work flawlessly in VMWare, but not using VM Builder with Hyper-V.

Any assistance is greatly appreciate.

Thank you.

  • Chris,

I was able to see additional networks if I add the vEIOC using the Create VM selection:

Thanks, Bruce. I will try this later afternoon when I get back up to the office.

Bruce, I was finally able to get some time and try out the "Create VM" rather than using VM Builder and it worked. I now have a fully functional virtual EIOC.
    Thanks,, again.

Chris, There is an issue documented in KBA NK-1600-0150 where a Logical device configured as Boolean reading Holding registers does not apply the correct Byte Order (Little/Big Endian). This is resolved in v13.3.1, but the Virtual EIOC image does not appear to have been corrected. We found this in a project using the Virtual EIOC, but all was well in the Physical EIOC. The KBA indicates it applies to the Virtual EIOC, but does not indicate any fix to the VM being available. The Hotfix cannot be applied to the VM.

Note this is only for those LDT's configured as Boolean reading Holding registers.

Andre, I recall reading about this. Thank you for pointing it out to Chris. Would you know if it has been resolved for a v14.3.1 Virtual EIOC ?

I don't know if this is resolved for v13.3.1. You should log a call with GSC so they can confirm if you can obtain a new template or if there is any workaround.

  • Chris,
I hope your question on the VM Builder tool has been resolved. I am very interested in hearing about your making the virtual EIOC to work flawlessly in the VMWare environment. Can you tell me some details about how you made this work such as host hardware, software, EIOC virtual machine file, etc? I am super interested. Thank you so much.
