Commissioning a decommissioned Virtual EIOC

Hello everyone,

We have a training system DeltaV version 14.3.1 with a Virtual EIOC.  We are using this Virtual EIOC to communicate with a real PLC to support training.  It has been working well as far as passing data back and forth between the PLC and the DeltaV system.  Currently this virtual EIOC is running on a server in an ESXi environment (we are trying to get rid of this EXSi environment but that is another post for another time).

During one of our work tasks recently we decommissioned this EIOC node.  When we tried to commission it, it did not appear in the Decommissioned Nodes window so there was nothing to choose to commission.  It also does not appear on the Decommissioned Nodes branch in DeltaV Explorer.   We tried rebooting the EIOC virtual machine within ESXi and the host server itself but still see the same result.  Any ideas where we need to look?

Thanks so much.

  • The virtual nodes don't always decommission properly. In addition, if it happens to be not communicating when you send a decommission signal, there is no equivalent of a "forceful" decommission like you can do with real hardware. The solution is delete the VM and redeploy a replacement one.
