then another device cannot comission from the place holder it shows commision when right clicked to bring the context menu, but does not show up in list of decommissioned devices. thanks

I have never found the "right click placeholder / commission" method in DeltaV Explorer to work reliably. For me it's rare when it does.
Try selecting "Decommissioned devices" for the segment, hit "F5" once or twice to "refresh", then try the drag-and-drop method (drag the decommissioned device from the decommissioned devices folder and drop it on the placeholder). See if that works any better.
Also what version of DeltaV are you running . . .
  • In reply to John Rezabek:

version 7.2 i have done the F5 but the device wont show up in the decommissioned devices
  • In reply to molly:

V7.2 is a long time ago... Back then, we used the AMS Inside application for commissioning and configuring FF devices. Since then, the installation has moved to a full AMS installation, which allows the FF configuration and commissioning to occur, and AMS licensing to expand the AMS database for HART and other devices as well as the added features for FF.

My point is the majority of the community will not have your architecture or experience to draw on. What work's well in current releases (v11 to v13) may not apply to v7.2. And unfortunately, the GSC will be limited on their support. The CTS database may have information on issues logged when that software was more current. But if you don't have Guardian support, they are not available you either.

I would suggest one thing. Make sure you have a solid back up of your database before you explore any suggestions we might make in this forum. Would not want you to follow an instruction and end up with a bigger problem. Anyway, I no longer have a v7.2 system to refresh my memory on how things worked back then. Good luck

Molly I would most definitely follow Andre's advice regarding backing up the database.

If the device won't show in decommissioned devices - as Andre says not sure how things worked back then. But you can try diagnostics and see if you see an unknown device(s) there. (right-click segemnt, select "Diagnostics"). If you see it there it may be that you don't have the current or correct DD (device descriptor) for the instrument. It appears you can still get DD's for version 7, try looking here:

    thanks this is solved now
