  • I am only using v9, I think there were changes made in v10 but not sure what they were, usermanager is where it is done from deltav explorer, my advice would be to create a new user first with full entitlement and access to everything before changing the administrator password, just incase you lock yourself out, save and download changes. If you need specifics I will have to check when I'm at work tomorrow.
  • Here is the information from the v 10.3 BOL article on Deltav system security:
"The DeltaVAdmin password is pre-assigned in your DeltaV system. This password should be changed after you receive your DeltaV System.

**To change the DeltaVAdmin account password, you must use ServPwd.exe.**

Note Never change the DeltaVAdmin account password from Windows User Manager. There is a special DeltaV utility under the directory DeltaV\bin titled ServPwd.exe for changing this password (and the SoftPhaseUser account password). Several applications that run as Windows services must be reregistered as Windows Services when the password on this account is changed. The password on this account is stored only in SAM (the Windows Security Account Manager database). Therefore, you must use this special DeltaV utility to reregister DeltaV Services.
Important Change the DeltaVAdmin password using ServPwd.exe.

Change the Administrator password using DeltaV User Manager."

Regarding precautions, you will need to ensure that you can tolerate rebooting each of your DeltaV workstations, app stations, pro plus, etc. once the servpwd.exe program is run.
Any non-DeltaV interfaces running as the DeltaV admin (like a third party OPC client service) will need their credentials updated as servpwd.exe will not be able to update these services on the local or remote machines where they execute.
Finally, you need to ensure you have a password management system in place for storing and retrieving the DeltaVAdmin password so that only members of staff who require access to this password can get it. Every time you run workstation configuration (say to replace or add a new workstation) your responsible staff will need to know what to enter.
  • If you are running XLReporter as a service using the administrator account you will need to update the password there also, separately, it is a 3rd party application.
