How to Recover from a wrongly changed DeltaV OPC DeltavAdmin password

Hi

Everything has been working well before this day.

A third pary non-deltav machine running Kepware is connected to the Deltav OPC . The DeltaVAdmin password on this third party PC expired. The OPC_Admin account is locked out. And we tried to resolve the issues. A new password was set for the DeltavAdmin  on the Third party machine(Kepware client) using its windows user account.

Secondly Our DeltaV OPC password was changed using Windows Users Account. The OPC_Admin user account on DeltaV OPC was also changed using windows users account. On rebooting the OPC, it could not run DeltaV you can only get to the desktop. The OPC is showing not communicating on EWS diagnostics, all other work stations are okay.

Please how does none recover from this issue. Do we return to the old password using the same Windows User Account for both OPC_Admin and DeltavAdmin?

  • The DeltaVAdmin password must be the same on all workstations. If you changed it on your third party machine, you need to change it to match on all other deltav workstations. If you have no password policies restricting it, you could change the password back to the old password on that machine and things should start working again. The DeltaVAdmin password should not be changed directly in Windows user manager, but should be changed using the ServPwd utility.

Thanks; are there any special commands for using Servpwd utility? I have not used it before. Any special characters, syntax etc? And in my case since the OPC is the only machine affected do I run it only on the OPC?

The DeltaVAdmin account is a special account used for communication in the background of DeltaV. It must have the same password on all the DeltaV machines to communicate critical information on the system. The utility to change it, ServPwd is a windows application that you can run. When it comes up, it will give you the option to set the password. Depending on the version of DeltaV, sometimes you might have a "Set to Default Password" option and sometimes you may not. In either case, for security reasons, you really should set it to a unique password for your site. The password must match on all machines. If you know what the password is set to on all your machines, you can set it just on the OPC client machine to match the others, otherwise, you would have to change it on all the DeltaV Machines to be the same.

Thanks to all. I reverted the DeltavAdmin account to its previous password on Deltav OPC and the third party system and all is now working well.
