Virtually every industrial control application is important. Poor quality in the control system can result in costly downtime, product waste, and production errors, all impacting efficiency and ultimately the bottom line. Few applications, however, can claim to be providing safe transit to over two million people a day. That, however, is the focus of the control infrastructure developed by Emerson for a major transit agency in a large Asian city. Twenty-one underground stations along a 200+ mile network are controlled and managed by Emerson PACSystemsTM solutions. Of particular interest are the highly disparate systems from ventilation and fire to access control and plumbing that are all under management of the controllers.
