The need to meet upcoming changes in regulations impacts a lot of industries, but none more than solar energy plants that have to comply with the new CAISO (California Independent System Operator) and NERC regulations. One such power company constructed a 100 MWac solar project, which employed a 75 MW / 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) retrofit to the site. The control systems for the existing installation were not able to meet the demands of the new regulations, plus could not sustain the company’s anticipated growth and expansion. They turned to their energy solutions provider, Nor-Cal Controls, which in turn decided to use the Emerson PACSystems RX3i control solution for its power, flexibility and scalability.
