OPC Mirror in DeltaV 14.3.1 / LTS - how to set up users?

I tried to install the version of OPC Mirror supplied on the media (Disk 4); seems like new version has some "features" that I find difficult to navigate.

1.) The service has to run under a ""Not an admin" account with specific conditions / not conditions. Would any of us who's solved this say this (domain) account looks okay?

The service won't start, perhaps because I haven't imported any pipes. But "config" is grayed-out in the tray menu while logged in as a DeltaV & Windows admin account.

If I log in as the "mirror" service account, it says I need to be an admin (remains grayed out).

If I log in as a local admin, it isn't grayed out BUT it doesn't see my license on the ProPlus and wants me to send a fax to a number that doesn't work (512-832-3939).

I have added the DeltaV admin account to local admins and added both it and the service account as local users. Both are in the "Mirror users" windows group.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. My "pipes" are simply doing device reads from the DeltaV server to Module variables, also in the DeltaV server, so both source and destination are "localhost".

 Thanks,

John Rezabek

  • Looks like your USER settings look fine.

But I'm not sure what to do to fix it. I'm wondering if it's because your account is a simple User account and not a Service Account. I recall having to add the name of the account in a list of Service Accounts. I can't recall the details.

Are you in a Domain or a Workgroup environment? I'll see if I can revive my brain cells on this.

Andre - we're a Domain environment. I'll poke around a bit and see if there's another group that the service account needs to join.
A little history - our field service guys from the EIP reverted to the "Mirror" shipping on v 13.3.1, which one day stopped functioning. All device reads were flagged "invalid". After trying the latest version for 14.3.LTS, I reinstalled the one from 13.3.1 with similar results. Curiously though - in "Mirror Config" the values in the pipe came back as "valid" when I imported it, but then failed when saved and the service was started.

So the "help" describes two accounts - OPC Mirror User and OPC Mirror Service Account. I suppose I might need both? (12) does say the service account "can also be use as an interactive user".

Is "USER" the account that can configure / start / stop the pipes and must *NOT* be the same as the service account?

The error message I get says "Cyber Security: Access Denied" in the banner.

The text says "the user does not have privilege to access the OPC Mirror database".

The first step i would take is to reinstall Mirror V14 using the latest version from the Software Updates KBA

KB NK-1500-0105 is the Mirror Updates document and it will have the download link for DeltaV_1431_TFSB144337_OPCMirror

The OPC Service User should work with what you have configured but it will also need the necessary keys (minimum Control) for the areas that the tags are reading/writing to.

If the service still is not starting i would look at the Windows Event "System" Logs and see what the issue is. Logon as a Service Right should be granted when the service is configured.
