Deltav continuous historian data.

With Continuous Historian, is there any means to export the collected data into a format that displays the trend data in a raw data format?

I know of DeltaV Reporter. I'm looking to possibly export the backed up data and potentially convert it into something palatable in Excel.

My method may not be the ideal route or a possible route. The data I want to export are the primary values or a given tag.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi. DeltaV Reporter certainly will take data from the Continuous Historian and place into Excel suitable for displaying in a chart.
An alternative is XLReporter by Sytech. I had previously found a post in EmersonExchange365 from several years back on XLReporter by Bruce Greenwald of Emerson (credit where credit is due!) - linking to this: acmebiotech.blogspot.com/.../skinning-cat-with-xlreporter.html
    Hope this helps!

Hello. I represent SyTech, an Emerson partner, who supply the software XLReporter. Since Bruce's article, we developed our own workbook engine that gives you all the features of Excel without needing to deploy Excel!. This approach overcomes all the obstacles native Excel introduces in an automation environment. Send me an email if you want to learn more.
  • Other than DeltaV Reporter and XLReporter, are there other options? I'm curious if their are methods without a third party program. If not, I'll have to look into getting one or the other.
  • In reply to Long Tran:

DeltaV Reporter is installed from the DeltaV DVD set (DVD #4 in the DV_Extras directory) with no additional licensing. Any other method will use some program to transfer the data.
  • In reply to Long Tran:

You can use "PI System Management Tools" on Continuous historian, with that tool you can export data to excel.

Does PI-SMT have to be local to the computer that DeltaV and continuous historian are also on or can you import archived/backed up history into PI-SMT?
  • In reply to Long Tran:

I think PI SMT needs to be installed locally, but i am not sure.
Yes, you can import archived/backed up history. (.arc-files)
  • In reply to Markus:

PI SMT does not work on Continuos Historian. It is for Advanced Historian, or Legacy Historian on versions before v12. It is for OSIsoft PI historians.

Yea, sorry, we are on v.12 with advanced chist.
  • In reply to Markus:

Good to know. Advanced Historian is based on OSISoft Enterprise PI server, which uses completely different admin tools than the DeltaV Continuous Historian. Note that when working with the PI Archives, you have to use the corresponding tag database used to create and populate the archives. PI Archives store data using indices that are defined in the tag data. The continuous Historian maintains the tag information in the data sets directly and that allows these to be registered on any Continuous Historian, as long as time stamps don't overlap.

The PI Excel Add in can be used to view data in Excel. This uses direct PI API calls. It's been too long since I worked with the PI -SMT tools to be of any help beyond this.
