Putting historical data from a Migrated system into DeltaV Continuous Historian

We have recently migrated a system from Siemens APAC's to DeltaV. The client is wanting to put 10-15 years of archived data from the old system into DeltaV Continuous Historian for record keeping purpose and trend viewing. Does anyone have experience doing this or has anyone looked into it to see if this is possible. I have a call into tech support but I also figured I would check on here as well. Thanks

  • There were a number of process historians that came packaged with HMIs software that APACS could have been to integrated with e.g. the earlier Moore Products Process Suite (private label WW Factory Suite), or the Siemens Win CC if it has been upgraded. Have also come across custom installations with OSI PI, Aspen InfoPlus or the old Intellution iHistorian.

What legacy historian is the process data residing in now?

    WW Factory Suite

There was an Emerson Exchange presentation regarding this in 2012:
Download 4-2283 Programmatic Historian Data Entry
    http://community.emerson.com/process/emerson-exchange/events/2012_anaheim/m/mediagallery/1788

Books on line also has an article on the topic "Writing Historical Data to a Continuous Historian Database".

I'm not sure it is the best way to handle the request, since you'd have to get the WW Factory Suite information into an Excel format, then chug through thousands of rows of history on thousands of points, potentially.

Another possibility is to go with the Advanced Continuous Historian (OSIsoft PI) which provides a great number of interfaces for delivering the data from whatever format to PI. The trick there would be then converting the tags from the Factory Suite interface point source to the DeltaV interface point source (probably not very easy).

    Still reseaching this ...

With help from colleagues from Emerson LBP Novaspect, I learnt that the only "good" solution we can suggest is the the Emerson Advance Continuous Historian, which is PI. (The native DeltaV Continuous Historian does not allow writes to the data archived.) Use manual history points that allow writes to bring the "old" data in although these points are limited and they will not be the same points as DeltaV points that are being archived. So there willl be two different points for each value/tag, an "old" one and a "new" one. Also 10 -1 5 years of data will take a long time to migrate/port over. This is, in essence, what i believe Youssef is suggesting as well.

Perhaps another option would be to retain the WW Historian and provide viewing options on DeltaV? Sorry we don't have an "easier" solution ...

Interestingly, OSIsoft recently announced the release of PI Connector for Wonderware Historian

This may make the advanced historian route easier to jump into.
