I am looking for a way to automate the import of backed up data sets into the DeltaV Continuous Historian as extended data sets. I am aware that Emerson does not provide any such method to do so and that anything will be a custom solution.

There are a couple of paths I am investigating:

1. Develop a script to identify newly ejected data sets and then use something like AutoHotKey to automate the imports.
2. Develop a script to identify when a data set rolls over from Active to Current, export it, and then import it as extended.

We have a historian system that collects a lot of data, even while tuned, it hits the storage limits weekly, bi-weekly at best giving us about 1.5 - 2 months of data. This isn't a big deal, but some of the reporting needs necessitate that I keep data up to 3 months in the historian. This manual import process gets really old.

Does anyone have an experience with trying to resolve this task?
