All controllers experienced Device Connection Failure.

Hello Everybody!

I had a similar issue with DeltaV Communications. All controllers connected on same Hirschmann Switch experienced Device Connection Failure with all workstations. It is important to know that I have a DeltaV Firewall IPD on Hirschmann side (Primary and Secondary). It looks like the nodes tried to switch to the redundant network but it was not successful, and all controllers lost communication with the operator workstations for about 1 minute (Graphics data went to magenta). Would you have any idea what could cause the issue? Primary and secondary SWs have independent power source, also the firewalls, and each firewall is connected a different Workstation SW (Primary and Secondary Cisco 2950) I wonder if Firewalls Firmware could affect the system.   Please add more information like the following.
  1. Diagram on how the controllers and workstations are connected.
  2. Is it the first time that you encountered this issue?
  3. How old is the system?
  4. DeltaV version.
  5. I presume the switches and firewalls came from Emerson. In case it came from other sources aside from Emerson then this issue is expected.
  6. What was happening before and during the occurrence of the issue. Is someone connected to the switches doing diagnostics or other stuff like using network diagnostic tools? Is someone doing hardware maintenance work like moving skids around the plant.
  7. Did anyone attempted to troubleshoot it? In case yes, what are the things been done.
