Process History View Not Opening.

I am trying to open process history view on my one operator workstation, but its not opening.

I can see it in the task bar and in the Task manager but the window is not opening.

I have tried the solution in the online books as well but of no use.

I have even tried re-running the operator workstation configuration, even after that i am facing the same issue.

can someone help me in resolving this issue?

  • I have seen the same symptoms on a couple of customer sites.

This is usually caused by a problematic Windows user profile.

To diagnose the issue if it is caused by a user profile. Login to Windows and DeltaV using a different user. Launch PHV and if it opens without issue then you have a problematic user profile.

To remedy the issue. You have to backup all files local to the station of this problematic user. After the backup delete the local profile of the problematic user then restart the station.

Take extra precaution not to delete the profile in the domain. You have to delete the user profile on the local machine where the issue exist. Deleting the user profile in the domain will wipe out the domain setting of that specific user.

    Hope this helps.

If the issue is with the Administrator Account as well then what remedy to be adopted.
  • In reply to Neil Castro:

i have deleted the all other user accounts and restarted the system by just keeping the Administrator Account.

But the issue is still there.

Did you try logging in to Windows other than the administrator?

If yes, were you able to successfully launch PHV?

If PHV is not successfully launched then the issue is not the user profile.

How many minutes did you wait for the PHV to show up?
  • In reply to Neil Castro:

atleast for around an hour for one time.....

When you launch PHV, you indicate you see the app in the taskbar. If you place the mouse over the taskbar icon, do you see the preview window? and If you right click in this window, do you see an option to RESTORE, Maximize or minimize the window? If Maximize is available, can you select this and see PHV maximized on your screen?

Some times, application windows open off screen, and you have no way to access the title bar to drag the window to adjust it, maximize it or minimize it. Even if you can maximize the window, when you select to show it as a floating window, it goes back to the offscreen location.

If you can figure out at least that this is what is going on, we can then look at ways to get this back.

Are you able to change the resolution of your monitor to a larger size, or add a second monitor and extend the desk top? Maybe that would allow you to actually see the window, and drag it back to the main screen. If that works, you can remove the other monitor or restore resolution once you have gained control of the floating window location.

I don't know if this will work, but it is worth a try. The location of a floating window is stored by Windows to reopen the application in the same place next time. If we can at least confirm this is what is happening, we might be able to find a fix online.

I found a thread on line that suggested you can "cascade" open windows, causing any hidden or off screen open windows to be cascaded, and this will bring them to the main monitor. Right click in the windows task bar and select cascade windows. Note that the application must not be minimized for the window to be involved in the cascade.

I tried this on my dual screen set up, and it cascaded windows on each monitor. Check to make sure your monitor setup is single monitor. With only one monitor recognized, the windows should all cascade to that monitor. Let us know if that actually works...

The preview window also does not appear.

there is no dual monitor setup on the systems.

    Only single monitor is attached.
  • By chance, have you tried these options?
