OPC Licensing

I have an APPs station that is licensed for 8000 points (Using only 5200) but when I try to add points in an a couple of external applications using Matrikon DM, I get an error to the effect that the OPC License limit has been exceeded. Using OPC Watchit I get the same error. These applications have been running for several years with no problems. I also have a couple of other applications which are OPC clients and there's no problem adding tags. This has only happened recently and there have been no software upgrades or Server issues. Anyone run across this in your travels?

  • OPC licenses are cumulative on all Client connections. Make sure you count license usage from all clients. Also if a tag is used multiple times, each items uses a license.

If you confirm the total license usage is below your applied licenses suggest you contact the GSC.

Also check that the App station really has the licenses assigned to it and are downloaded.

Thanks Andre. I did so and the licensing is fine, however I did find that our corporate PI team has connected two redundant interfaces to the same APP station (I have two standalone servers) which puts the total tag count to 7999. That's why when I tried to add a group to an existing application, only one tag would work. I'll update this when we get it fixed in case it may help someone in the future.
