Deleting or removing a DeltaV v11.3 workstation

Hi Colleagues,

What is the proper procedure for removing or deleting a workstation from DeltaV Network set up in domain environment?

What are the other precautions and follow up actions that I have to mindful if I use DeltaV explorer to delete a workstation?

I will appreciate your answers.

  • Disclaimer - The comments below DO NOT apply if the station to be removed is a Domain Controller or DNS Server.  Having stated that...

If you are permanently removing the client station from a DeltaV system, you can delete it from DeltaV Explorer.  This will require a download of changed setup data on other nodes at some point to update their node table.

Because you are in a domain you will also need to remove the workstation as a member of the domain and remove the DNS host records.

If the workstation is still in operation it is best to do this gracefully by going to System Properties and changing the workstation membership to Workgroup and rebooting.  Then physically disconnect the workstation from the DeltaV networks.  Verify in Active Directory Users and Computers that the workstation no longer exists in any organizational unit.  Then verify in DNS that there are no longer any Host records for the removed workstation.  If for some reason entries still exist in U&C or DNS you can delete them now (ONLY for the removed workstation).  After 15 mins (ish?) you will want to verify on any other DCs in the domain that the AD and DNS changes have replicated.

If the workstation has failed or was already permanently removed from the network, you can manually delete the U&C and DNS entries (ONLY for the removed workstation).  Again it's a good idea to verify that the changes get replicated to other DCs.

    Best Regards.
