DeltaV Simulate v11.3 Installation

Some time go I successfully installed DeltaV Simulate (stand-alone) on a Dell Latitude D830 laptop under Windows 7 Professional.  I don’t recall having any problems with this.  As this machine has now become clogged with other stuff, I re-installed Windows 7 Professional and attempted to install DeltaV v11.3.  The installation goes so far and then fails with the error message shown below.  Any assistance in resolving this would be most welcome as I’m now stuck without a DeltaV development and test system.

  • Thanks to all who responded to my request for help on re-installing DeltaV Simulate.  Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked!  However, I have managed to resolve the problem.  In case anybody else has had similar difficulties, here is what worked for me.
    • First I did a ‘clean install’ of Windows (i.e., format the hard disk partition before installing Windows).  In my case I installed Win 7 Home Premium then a ‘Windows Anytime Upgrade’ to Win 7 Pro – but I don’t think this is relevant.
    • Then I downloaded and installed Win 7 Service Pack 1 from the MS website.
    • Once this was all done, I installed DeltaV and all went OK apart from an error message almost at the end of the process.  I ignored this and all seems fine.

My guess is that the ordinary re-install process for Windows (i.e., without formatting the disk partition) leaves some residual stuff that was getting in the way of DeltaV.  I didn’t really want to take the time to learn how to use VMWARE (I’m a process and controls engineer, not a software engineer), but agree that a virtual machine is a good idea.

    Best regards,

I also agree that a VM is the best option here, but if you insist on installing on the host machine then I sugget deleting the SQL database for the EVENT CHRONICLE first manually. If that does not work neither then remove the SQL components completely and re-install everything.
