Symantec endpoint protection 14.4 installation in Deltav 13.1 workstation

Hi Expert,

we have delta v 13.1 installed on windows 7 workstation, and there was a Symantec endpoint protection 12 installed. as the support for the 12.1 SEP antivirus ends with the current version, we want to install the newer version  of Symantec end point protection 14.3. However our win 7 not updated  and the new antivirus require to install SHA-2 CODE SIGNING SUPPORT UPDATE (KB4474419). my question as below:

1- is there any effects on Deltav operations if we update windows 7 to include the latest updates including (KB4474419)?

2- is there any Symantec antivirus SEP 14 .3 effects on the Deltav operations ?

thanks

  • Haitham, I'll start stating that your best option to maintain your system protected is to upgrade your system to a supported level. As you know Windows 7 has been EoL by Microsoft already, and Emerson does not offer standard product support for DeltaV v13.3.1 on Windows 7 anymore. I can offer you some answers if we break the questions in smaller slices:

We've tested Microsoft's KB4474419 with DeltaV when this patch was released in 2019 and it is listed as approved in our Guardian documentation for DeltaV v13.3.1. This doesn't mean we are extending standard support for DeltaV v13.3.1 on Windows 7 if you simply install this KB on your installation.

Regarding Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) versions supported on DeltaV v13.3.1, last version tested with Windows 7 was SEP v14.3 MP1, beyond that point (e.g. v14.3 RU1, RU1 MP1 and RU2) will require Windows 10 though.

We have tested SEP 14.3 RU2 with all supported versions of DeltaV which run on Windows 10 / Server 2016.

As I said above, your better off upgrading your OS to Windows 10 for sure.

    Hope this helps!
