Trying to re commission a decommissioned node

Hi Everybody,

I am trying to recommission a delta v controller v 11.3, that I decommissioned yr and half ago (was told this would never be used again and now they want back). When I go to delta v explorer, I can see the node is decommissioned as it is grayed out. However, when I right click on this node and select commission it takes me to a decommissioned node file that is completely empty. I went to the physical network where the decommissioned node option is and this node is nowhere to be found, clicked on the changed setup download option and the delta v goes through my system and shows that this particular node controller pops up as decommissioned. How, do I recommission this node to get it back on the system.

  • Assuming you are confident your primary and secondary DeltaV connections to the controller are proven, then

Remove the controller(s) from the 2 wide carrier (backplanes) and wait for a couple of minutes. Then reconnect and then it should appear in the decommissioned nodes.

    Failing that,
    1. prove the network connections
    2. If you have DeltaV smart switches on the network ensure you’ve not got port locking enabled. If you’ve connected to locked port the newly connected controller may not show until those ports are unlocked.

    Good luck

  • Is your production system still version 11.3? There are some rare occasions whereby even a decommissioned controller may not appear in the decommissioned list if your DeltaV system is a newer version than what the controller was associated with. In that state, sometimes it will appear in the controller upgrade utility. If it does, you can flash the controller which will upgrade its compatibility and reset it. Contact your impact partner if this workaround is outside of your comfort zone.
