Labelling DeltaV Smart Switch Ports

Is there a way to put a software label/description on a switch port for a DeltaV Smart switch?

We where able to do this with Cisco switches and it is very convenient for diagnostics purpose.

  • Zoom, We manage DeltaV Smart Switches using the Network Device Command Center (v13.3+) and although you cannot really manually change the port labeling using HTTP access or even through the serial port, NDCC will automatically define which nodes are connected to each port by means of information available in DeltaV and what is also available in the network from a MAC address and IP address perspective. This is actually done dynamically and part of the integrated application included with each DeltaV system. Once locked via NDCC, the ports present even further notifications that can help with troubleshooting as well, and we also automatically label ports that are Uplinks (U), probes for mirroring (P) or even when they are ignored from the lockdown algorithms, hence remaining open on demand (O) - this last labeling aspects (O/U/P labels) are available for NDCC in v14.3+.

Hi Thanks for the response but when you connect a controller to the port on a DeltaV Smart Switch its name does not appear in the NDCC is there something to enable to make this dynamic? MAC address and IP address are there but can we not have the controller name appear on the NDCC also. We are using 14.3.1
  • In reply to Zoom:

Zoom, the controller names don't show up in NDCC currently, this info applies to Computer (endpoints) only.

Thanks for quick reply it would be very useful if the Controller endpoints would appear as well thanks for answering.
