Download for SIS

Hi

If we have blue triangle on SIS module ,and the plant is running and the costumer not have nearest shutdown ,My question how can do safe download to this CSLS without effect on process

  • Anytime you download a logic solver on a running process you inherently have some risk. The bigger issue is that it really depends on what was changed within the module that has triggered the blue triangle. Downloading a "minor change" that will not require any of the voter blocks, inputs or outputs to change state, I have had good success doing that while running. If the change impacts I/O or logic then I would say the probability of trip during download is significantly higher. My rule of thumb is always that the blue triangle isn't really hurting anything and if my units can't withstand a trip during download, then I shy away from it if possible.
  • Hello Hassan,

You have used terms like "safe download" and "without affect the process", so I would like to break the answer in two points.

From the Product Perspective, both SLS1508 and CSLS were designed in such a way that a download will not disrupt the process, so for example, you added a new SIF to an existing logic solver, and want to download it in order have it up and running, in this case, it will not affect the other SIFs that were running in that particular logic solver.

Now, let's say you went thru a HAZOP, and identified additional risks, leading to the modification of an existing SIF, you will now be changing the configuration of an existing SIF, the new behavior and the interaction with other SIFs shall be validated to make sure they will work as per the HAZOP requirement. When downloading the logic solver in this situation, what may lead to a trip, is the fact that the current process status is actually in a trip condition, based on the new configuration.

    Hope that helps.
