Pre-Flash a Spare Redundant VIM2?

If we have a DeltaV 13.3 rack with redundant VIM2 modules and a spare VIM2 module, would it make sense to flash (upload) the spare VIM to shorten downtime when it's needed? I'm not sure if VIMNET Explorer loads anything different in the two VIMs depending on which one is selected as the primary and which is the secondary. If not, it would save some time in a maintenance emergency if the spare VIM is already uploaded with the matching configuration.

  • Flashing the Spare hardware to the required version is good practice for all the reasons you've stated. If you had multiple VIM's installed with different versions, you might want to get them all the same revision so there are no issues and the spare can be used in any location. Since the Simplex VIM runs as an isolated node, these don't require the same version, but again, running the latest version means avoiding known issues and streamlines any intervention.
