HART Device Specific Detail Displays

Where can someone find device specific detail displays for HART devices (the ones used instead of HARTgeneric_dt.grf )?  Specifically I'm looking for the 3051S Wireless HART pressure transmitter, but really I'd like to know where to find any of these.

  • Have you got AMS Intelligent Device Manager? It is an intelligent device management (IDM) software that displays all FOUNDATION fieldbus, 4-20 mA/HART, and WirelessHART devices with their full details. Learn more about IDM here:

  • You are looking for the DeltaV Operate detail displays that were originally released in v8 for DeltaV SIS. These displays were specific to each device type. The standard HART status BYTE is common to all devices, but the additional diagnostic values are custom to each device. I think these were created because AMS Inside only supported FF devices at the time, so these were created to provide access to the SIS Device health information without the requirement to purchase a full featured AMS Device Manager system. The displays mimicked the DD screens but only provide read access. There was also a limited number of approved safety devices available.

In later releases, AMS and DeltaV were reunited and full diagnostic coverage of FF and HART devices were provided with the same AMS. The use of these displays was pretty much discontinued. Todays EDD screens are completely different and going back to the DT.GRF file would not be a viable approach. Also, within the standard Device Faceplate, there is a button (A Fisher valve and Rosemount transmitter) that will launch AMS Device Manager and connect to the device directly to show the Device health. As Jonas suggests, you should look to AMS Device Manager to view and manage HART devices.

You would need to create your own device Detail Displays if you want to use this approach, and I don't recommend that.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight/history of these detail displays. I was hoping to bring visibility within DeltaV Operate to a few of the device alarms that don't show up on the generic detail display. I'm thinking that my path forward is to look to see how some of the device specific detail displays achieved this and duplicate that for the couple of items I'd like to show.
  • Hi mlwalter, Jonas just hit the nail on the head. I'd strongly recommend against building custom operator displays or detail displays for instrumentation data. The problem with that approach is that it will take time to implement this custom approach when AMS Intelligent Device manager will do it all automatically with no configuration effort required on your part. The difficulty with forcing an operator interface to encompass instrumentation asset management is that someone will need to explicitly reference HART parameters in each device or at least each device type. There is little value in this approach when you consider the fact that AMS was designed from the ground up to do exactly what you want plus a host of other things. Configure, calibrate, document and diagnose every single HART device connected to your DeltaV system without writing a single line of code or building a single detail display. Trying to stick build this functionality in a tool meant for operators (not maintenance folks) while it may be technically possible is only asking for a ton of work and even re-work when you upgrade your DeltaV system through major versions.
