Has anybody seen a workstation PC just power itself off. This is on Ver 11.3 and is an Operator station

The PC just powers itself off, push the power on the PC and it restarts with no alarms or issues. Then it will run any where from 10 to 45 minutes and does it again?? This system has been online for 6 months and never have seen this problem before

  • When you reboot, is it indicating that the station was shutdown improperly? Does it give the option to start up in Safe Mode?

If so, it may be the CPU overheating. Or any number of other hardware related issues.

No it is not giving any shut down issues it just restarts in a normal way. No option for restarting in safe mode?? I never have seen a PC just shut itself off with out notice or warning like the blue screen?? It is like the OS knows it is doing this??

Can you check the System log to see if there are any unusual errors? Control Panel -> Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System

Sorry but this has gone further than my ability. I have no idea what that error code means, and Googling it did not make it clear. Maybe someone else will be able to decode it. The only other thing I would ask is whether the timestamp on that error code corroborates with the time that the workstation shut down? This would let us know whether or not it might be related.

Yep, I know the feeling been there done that also beyond my ability. But thank you for your help and also for your honesty..
  • Windows does have a feature to put a PC to ‘sleep’.  Before checking for Hardware/Software faults, you might want to check this first.  Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Change/Edit Plan Settings.

Yep went there to start they are all set at never.
  • Had the same problem. V11.3 operator station in control room shuts down periodically after running for months. All error logs are empty. We replaced the station and are still investigating the problem offline, but cannot reproduce the problem.
There might be (hardware)problem with the Dell machine. Think ours is a T3600. Warranty just expired.

By chance are you using a four monitor display set up? We have the four monitor and had to go through all the hot fixes to get it configured to work. I believe the problem exists some where in the hot fix?? Can not prove this. What I have done is rerun the workstation configuration and it has not shut down since. That was about 15 hours ago. Still investigated it here also THANK you for the reply.
  • In reply to DOUG DEWITT:

Ours is a single monitor without all the latest hotfixes installed. It ran fine for over 8+ months before giving problems. Also other machines in this plant work ok. In our office it has run fine for days, just not in the control room. We suspect a problem with the power supply, but hard to prove. I've been told that the site UPS has random spikes and control room power-outlets are under UPS.

Well, by doing a workstation configure I have got the OIT to remain on? This has also ran for 8+ months with out the problem. We have two other workstations in the control room which at this point have not seen the problem although they are dual monitor setups. All of the workstations in the control room here are on the same UPS?
After the reconfigure it has ran for two days now???
  • In reply to DOUG DEWITT:

Actually, it is a dual head station also, like 2 other OWS's in the control room. Every plant on site has a huge UPS battery-bank and outlets around the plant for critical small equipment. Emergency generators for the big equipment.
Our case happened several months ago and we let the machine run for a couple of weeks continuously in the office without problems. Now it's a spare part for the moment.
Will try the workstation configuration 'trick' and place it back in the control room to see if it keeps running. Thanks.

Update; Sunday morning 12/7/14 after 4 days of running the problem restarted??? Again I tried to do Config this time it did not work seems to be getting worse this time it will not even stay on more then 10 minutes.
Emerson needs to look into this problem but I have gotten NO support from them either??
  • In reply to DOUG DEWITT:

Do you have an Emerson call number from the GSC that I can look up to see the current status?
