Multiple Process History Views

Dear All,

We've recently purchased Emerson's quad monitor workstations and are attempting to pull up more than 6 graphs per process history view instance. Is there a set limit for the number of graphs that an be viewed per instance, or can we open up multiple instances of PHV per work station?Just to clarify, I do not need more trends per graph, just more graphs.

Has anybody worked on or developed such requirements?

If so, please kindly inform and share the details. I have searched the forum as best I could. Please forgive me if this question has already been addressed.

Thank you very much for your help and support.

  • You cannot open more than one instance of the Process History View application, but you can have multiple charts/event files open within the application.

If you click the Window menu in PHV, you can see a list of all the open chart/event files and you can select to tile them so they are all visible at once.  If you want to span multiple screens, you may need to increase the size of the PHV application window to span multiple screens.

You can also embed multiple PHV charts as OLE objects:

    1.       Select Insert >> OLE Object…

    2.       Select EmbeddedTrendCtrlControl

    3.       Size and position

    4.       Configure

    6.       Save picture

Finally, you also have the option to embed real-time charts into Operate.  (Insert-->Chart).

I've used the approach mentioned by Youssef a number of times and like it.

PHV is more flexible and is a better option for troubleshooting, but the embedded trends are great for monitoring the process.

We have opened up multiple windows within PHV, however the most windows or graphs you can have open within an instance of PHV is 6 windows. We would like to view more than 6 windows at one time.

Your suggestion about embedding the PHV's seems like it might be a viable option for us, however we would really like to be able to keep the "events" section of the PHV e-charts.

We already have several trend pages made. Do you know of any way to embed the ".phve" file itself?

  • Considering this should be a basic requirement of any DCS, Emerson’s embedded phv is not really an operator friendly solution, because:

    ·        No runtime changes

    ·        It cannot be printed

    ·        No events

    ·        Slow to load graphic pages

    ·        No VB interaction

    ·        Cannot draw static lines on top of the embedded phv object

I’ve resorted to dedicating one of the quad monitors to PHV with ‘Always on Top’ selected, or I give the operators a Pi Processbook page a let them trend in a much more user friendly environment.

Adrian, as a suggestion to at least fix the inability to print, check out KBA AP-0900-0135 Embedded Trend Control and Batch Controls in DeltaV Operate Run Mode are Printed Incorrectly

  • Thanks Brian, I’ll give that a go, but how does it handle quad monitors? I know if you use print screen on a quad, you end up with all four monitors in a single screen capture….not really user friendly!

    Brian,

Do you have process history view on all four of your quad monitors?

If so, that is really what we are looking for.

    Thanks.

  • Sorry, I was just pointing out a fix to the printing of embedded objects. My experience with PHV and quad head has usually been with a single monitor having it always on top.
