DeltaV Simulate 7.4 License Key

I have installed version 7.4 simulate as I have a client who is still running this version.   I previously had it running a few years back but for whatever reason when I go into DeltaV setup it will not look at the A: drive (floppy) to load the license key.

I have an external usb Floppy drive.  The computer see's the drive within My Computer and also I am able to access the files on the drive.  However when I click LOAD in the setup I get nothing showing up.  I have tried disconnecting the drive and reconnecting it then I click on load as soon as the drive starts accessing the disk in the drive.  This has also been unsuccessful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • You could copy the license file to some directory on the hard drive, and
    browse to the copied file.

I have tried that option however it will not allow me to browse to any drive except the Floppy.  It tells me if I do not see a license key in the below window to insert the floppy disk and click load.

  • Are you running a VM and have you added a floppy in the VM devices?

yes I am running a VM.  I have added the floppy to VM devices and that is all working fine.

Is there any other way to copy the license into a folder?  I have tried to find on my version 11.4 where the file is stored but looks like it might chance the file type

  •  I would like to suggest two possible solutions. I am not sure if they will definitely work.

      (1) You should be able to open the license file 000X-000X-XXXX.lia with an application like  Note Pad. Copy and paste the entire contents into another/New  Note Pad screen and then save the file into another folder with a .lia extension. Now you may be able to browse to that location and load the license file.

     (2) On a completely different occasion with another product (this was not an Emerson Product), I was trying to convert a temporary license into a permanent license. The vendor had sent me the permanent license file and I was connecting to the server (on which I had to load the license) using Remote Desk Top from my PC. I could not load the license no matter how many different ways I tried. (The license was on a USB connected to my PC and I was trying to load it on to the server using the RDP).  The only way I succeeded in loading the license was to be physically at the server and load it (using the server's  USB port). Since you are using VM and I wondering if there is a similar issue as to what I experienced (using Remote Desktop).

I am not sure if either of the two suggestions might help you. May be worth a try.

I have also just noticed under DeltaV explorer it is not giving me the option to Load the license under the file menu.  It is grayed out and will not let me select it.  I have installed as a stand alone (simulator)

I have been doing some looking around and I think it might be because it is not seeing the Hardlock key which is attached to the LPT1 port.  The port is working but DeltaV is not seeing the attached key.

  • In reply to Louise Foster:

    Hi

Check the HardLock key recognization buy using this console command :

    C:\DeltaV\bin\WatchIt.exe DongleDriver

  • In reply to Jack_France:

it is coming back with a RT_FAILURE  no device detected

  • In reply to Louise Foster:

I don't know if it is important, but I'll give you the LPT port config I use on my machine (XP) :

    (see détails in Device Manager)

When you click on the Printer Port LPT1, you may have these informations :

    General tab :

    Device usage "Use this device"

    Port settings tab :

"Never use an interrupt" is checked

"Enable legacy Plug and Play detection" is disabled

    Resources tab :

May show the I/O range 0378 to 037F

and the "Use automatic settings" is checked

    Hope that help you

Have a lot in the BIOS data (at boot time) about printer port, there is some settings too.

  • In reply to Jack_France:

I have tried duplicating your settings and for whatever reason my system is still not seeing the dongle.  Do I need to install a driver for the dongle?

  • In reply to Louise Foster:

    I don't think so.

The parallel port is driven by Windows, no special driver required.

Is your parallel port embedded on the PC motherboard ?

Because additional card (PCIe for ie) don't address the system the same way, DV dongle cannot be recognized.

Do you have a look to the BIOS settings ?

  • If you are using it in a Virtual Machine, you'll need to assign the dongle to the VM, at least for the first time.
For VMware Workstation (your xact steps may be different for a different product or version):
VM -> Removable Devices -> (hardlock identifier) -> Connect (disconnect from host)

After the initial, manual connection, it will reconnect automatically on subsequent reboots of the Virtual machine.

  • In reply to SBPosey:

Unfortunatly I am not seeing the Hardlock identifier withing the removable devices.  I think this is because it is on the LPT1.
