Are there any recent workstations capable of running Delta V Version 7.4?

Hi all,

The old dell workstations that I've been using with Delta V seem to be obsolete. Since Delta V is quite specific about workstation cocompatibilityI was wondering if there's a recent workstation that might be compatible with Delta V Version 7.4. Any useful suggestion would be immensely appreciated.

  Well for this I would suggest you to contact emerson directly (or their local business partners in case of North America). Well the main issue here is that Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows XP and server 2003 flavours of the operating system. Therefore not much can be done and it would be logical to upgrade the system to latest version of DeltaV (11.3.1 or 12.3.1).
  
  Doing so can definitely incur some cost but it is need of the time.
  
  Meanwhile, Emerson utilises workstations T4300, T3500, T3600 from Dell as a DeltaV operator station. These come with Windows 7 by default and as I said before it would be hassle to downgrade them to XP...

  Emerson does offer a Refurbished Workstation program through Lifecycle Care, through which you can get several older server / workstation models. As Purnendu mentioned, the legacy OS would not be eligible for security patches; same for DeltaV 7.4.
  
  An alternative that's worked well for us is to use a newer PC with a virtual machine (running the older OS / DeltaV version). This has been a really good bridge solution for many sites as they add a DCS upgrade to their lifecycle planning.

  keep in mind that we do not support older versions than 9.3 as virtulized online systems.
  Try to contact your local office and ask for a Refurbished Workstation or start planning a possible upgrade.

  As the product manager for the DeltaV Workstation hardware I can tell you that you will have to go to your local DeltaV support office and work with them to get info on the refurbished PC program to find a compatible PC. Even the new XP compatible PCs will not run the Windows Server Pack version used on 7.4. I think 7.4 is still at service pack 1 and the new computers will only run Service Pack 3.
