Process Historian is Crazy Slow- What tools to help Diagnose?

13.3.1 - PCSD- DeltaV Operate

Lately our Process Historian is really slow. When you pull up a historian view from the faceplate it will take forever to pull up the trend(s). When you increase the time span, the symptom is the same.  It seems to have to do with accessing the archived data.  Our Ap Station is our Historian.  It runs on a VRTX.  Our system is made up of both VMs and physical workstations. The problem seems to span across both types of machines.

I wasn't sure what tools, if any, there are to help narrow down the source of the problem.  I checked hard drive capacities and misc data from the Application Server but didn't see anything out of line.

I'd assume there are some tools that might help narrow down the problem or at least trigger some new questions.

Has anyone seen a similar problem or have any advice?

Thanks!

  • We have a different system 14.3LTS and PBL, but we've seen the same thing. We found the issue isn't with the data but the Events trying to load in PHV. I believe the issue is with the size of event journal on the ProPlus. For a quick work around you can do a couple different things: 1) With PHV open go to View dropdown and uncheck Display Events and Track Events 2) Change Events server from ProPlus to any other Pro station that has events enabled.

This worked for us, but there is a KBA out there on this issue regarding recommendations for the Event Chronicle settings that will also help with this issue.

  • Kindly attach screen shot of the continuous historian properties
  • If you're in a domain environment (always recommended) make certain your reverse lookup zones are configured in the DNS for the primary and secondary networks. When these are not set up it can cause major slowdowns on PHV. If needed, you should be able to set up the reverse lookup zones without impacting the system.
