DeltaV Licensing

Hi,

Hope you’re doing good.

I have a query about DeltaV licensing.

  • I have 3 PK controllers (redundant) with 2 IPs coming to each controller from PLC (to primary & secondary connection). Should I consider this as 3 devices or 6 devices while I am procuring a VE4109S005 license?
  • I have 30 LDT configured in each PK controller for Modbus signal communication. How the DST is counted for this ?. Since its PK300 controller, do we need any separate DST license for these signals?
  • We have some 10 DI (SIS) signals and 10 AO (DCS) hardwired signals in addition and the customer is procuring 25 AO DST, 50 DI & DO DST in total. Is this enough ?

Thanks for checking & replying

Have a great day Slight smile

  • In a DeltaV system, each PK controller will require Device licenses for the connected PLC's and DST licenses for the configured LDT. For each Ethernet device, (PLC) you define a Physical Device, which can be connected as simplex or redundant. This requires one Device license. I
For each Logical Device tag (LDT, you require one DST, which will be based on the data type(s) of the configured signals.

You are using Modbus TCP, then each LDT will be of one data type: Boolean, 16 bit Integer, 32 bit integer or FP. Boolean LDT uses Discrete type license and the rest require Analog type license. If the LDT is Input type, then it requires DI or AI license. If it is Output w/wo readback, you need DO or AO.

I cannot confirm if you are adequately licensed. After licensing your hard wired signals, you are left with 15 AO DST, 40 DI and 50 DO DST's. Your list above has 21 LDT's connecting to Input Registers/Holding Registers indicated as INPUT Direction. These are typically read as Analog registers, Where as Coils would be configured as DO (outputs). You have 18 LDT's to Status registers. I can't determine if you have defined the LDT's based on DeltaV Boolean Data types. But if you are using integer types, you will need Many more AI DST's rather than DI or DO DST's.

You will need three Device Licenses, one for each PLC.

My guess is you are under licensed for the AI type LDT registers.

    Thanks for reply Andre...
Yes we are under licenced and this was running under VIM with MD controller before, so we have checked how much they have used and finalised the requirement and given the same to customer.
