Rosemount 8732 mag flow meter how to fix error "Analog output fixed"

I started getting an alarm two days ago on the display Output at 4 mA and elsewhere Analog output fixed. On the remote device to where the analog goes, it reads 0 flow.  On the flowmeter locally, it reads correctly at approximately 2200 GPM

How can this be repaired?

  • Hi Cliff,

I would check the configuration of the parameter called HART Polling Address. The default setting for that parameter is 0. With the address set at 0 it is in variable 4-20 mA mode. If the HART Polling Address gets set to a value of 1-15 it is in Multidrop mode. Multidrop mode is used for having multiple HART devices on the same loop. In this mode, the analog output is fixed at 4 mA. Variables are read via HART communication instead of using the 4-20 mA scale. The "Analog Output Fixed" error message is one way the transmitter lets the user know it is in Multidrop mode.

The other way the analog output can be set to a fixed value is using the Analog Output Loop Test. This is a specific maintenance test used to force the analog output to a user selected mA value. If the test isn't exited/stopped, the transmitter will remain in a fixed mA output. Cycling power will also take the transmitter out of the Analog Output Loop Test.
