In our test facility, we take high speed data with a dedicated system operated by a PC and recorded to disk. We also have a number of support systems that utilize PLCs and PAC Systems that are used to create the test environment. The control systems run at relatively high speed (< 5 ms loop rates), and we have an interest in pulling in data from the PLC, synchronized with the data from our high-speed DAS, so we can merge data from the model and the test environment. We are currently using Ethernet Global Data to stream data to a server and then pass data from the server to our DAS with OPC UA. Once set up, it is very easy for us to use, but data rates are somewhat limited, and there is significant interest from our test customers to reduce the latency and increase the rate of data acquired.
I'm wondering: Is there a way to use PROFINET to pull (push?) data from the PLC to a PC at a higher data rate (<10 ms update rate) if there is a relatively limited amount of data to be transferred? Are there any specialized hardware / software required?
I'd welcome any alternative recommendations people have used to acquire data at high speed from a PLC / PAC.
