Standalone PK Controller - Cycling power when Engineering terminal not connected - Controller cold restart

Wondering if someone on the forum has some details on how Controller cold restart works for the standalone PK controllers.  Is that still the method used to initialize a controller after power-cycle if the Proplus (or engineering terminal in the standalone case) is off-line or is there a different mechanism used for standalone PK's?  I used to work for Emerson rep way back in the MD controller days, am just getting back into DeltaV recently...my understanding from when I worked with MD's was that on power cycle it would check if the Proplus was up and use the Powerup directory to initialize itself and resort to the controller cold restart only if the Proplus was not on-line.  For PK's, does it even try to check in with the engineering terminal if it's connected, or does it store the compiled PowerUp config on it's SD card or does it rely on Controller cold restart?

Any info appreciated,
