SEL-2488 NTP Setup

Hello All,

Has anyone been successful in commissioning of SEL-2488 satellite network clock to synchronize time in DeltaV? Presently, the plant is on version 13.3.1. I set up the NTP server using Plant LAN -- the third NIC of PROPlus with successful connection, configured remote network of PRO+ with proper IP address; however, Diagnostics show None in the status of the NTPServer parameter. Also, I've tried connecting SEL clock to the 1° control network, assigning 10.4.128.1 per BOL, but failed to ping the node from PRO+ and Application stations. GSC attributed my failure to the unsupported device by DeltaV...

  • When the issue occurs, the following issues may be observed in DeltaV Diagnostics:
    • DeltaV Workstation System time offset (NTPOffset) continuously increments.
    • DeltaV Master and Backup Time Servers may report either NONE or itself as the NTP Server.
    3 Work-around
    1. Using Notepad, remove the following lines in the NTP.CONF file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc on the
nodes configured as the DeltaV Master and Backup Time Servers, and then save the file.
    o server 10.4.128.1
    o server 10.4.128.2
    o server 10.8.128.1
    o server 10.8.128.2
Note: These four IP addresses were added in DeltaV v13.3.1 by default and are used when the GPS NTP
time server is connected directly to the DeltaV Control Network.
    2. In Windows Explorer, right-click NTP.CONF, and then click Properties. On the Attributes section, click Readonly, and then click OK. This prevents DeltaV from adding back the IP addresses during download.
    3. Launch the Services tool. On the list of services, right-click NetworkTimeProtocol, and then click Stop. Rightclick it again, and then click Start.
