I am trying to sync my DeltaV master time node with an external NTP server. This NTP server being a non DeltaV box running Windows Server 2012 and the stock w32time server. I have already talked to the GSC and the only supported solution is to use a Symmetricom Sync Server but this doesn't seem like too much to ask. The NTP.ini file on the master time node appears to match all of the documentation provided by Emerson. Has anyone that has done this before know the tricks?
Thanks
That may be the only device that they support (ie will provide support for) but you can time sync deltav to any ntp enabled system using the instructions in books on line. It consists of enabling remote application server on a system, then configuring the ip address of the server in subsystem configuration. You must ensure Ntp is running as a service on the time sync source as opposed to juat w32time (you'll notice Windows time service is disabled on dv systems.)

Youssef,
Thanks for your help with this. I had been following the BOL instructions correctly but had falsely assumed that the built in windows time service in server 2012 was sufficient to serve NTP to DeltaV. I installed the freeware NTP server from meinbergglobal.com and after about 15 minutes Diagnostics showed that it was receiving time from the network source. Thanks again.

For additional reference, see NA-0200-0147. There is a section describing how to take the c:\deltav\bin\InstallNTPService.exe and ntpd.exe files from any Deltav workstation and use that executable to install NTP as a service on a non DeltaV machine (the section describes legacy systems but they also preface that it could actually be any windows system). This means you can avoid having to find a NTP implementation somewhere other than from an Emerson software base.
