All,
We are upgrading a legacy DeltaV system to version 14.3.1. During this process we want to update all the server names, including the Proplus, to the server naming convention to conform to global standards. Is it possible to do this? Our local Emerson office is engaged to assist with the project, but we are now 6 months into the project and they have now informed us it is impossible to rename the Proplus and that we must keep the old server name. They are refusing to engage further, stating that if they rename it our system will no longer be supported.
We have a live system at version 12.3.1 running virtual machines. We froze the database and have upgraded it using the migration tool.
We have built a new virtual environment with all new servers at version 14.LTS (14.3.1) with the server names we wish to have.
We envisioned our options being:
1. Do partial imports of the migrated database to preserve the naming convention of the new servers. This must be done carefully to prevent as many errors as possibe. Our local office is refusing to perform this action.
2. Bring the migrated database into the new system, overwriting our new server nodes, and go through the process of renaming them.
a. Our Emerson team had originally agreed to this plan and have now come back and said this option isn't supported.
Can anyone provide insights as to other options we may have? We need to have our new server environment and node names conform to our global standards. We are far enough along in the process now that the server names are already documented in dozens of places, including global systems for registering servers and applications.
