Trying to understand how to completely remove a Device tag and related  control module from our system.

  • Hi,

You can go to respective controller and browse your module in "assigned modules".
Once you find your module right click shows you "delete assignment" after that again right click the module, navigate to download there you can see delete module, do that and its done. To delete channel assignment, you can name it to spare then disable the channel if you want to.,

Before all these I would say you right click the module from the area and check for references.

One thing that can confuse users is the Unassigned IO References. After you've unassigned the Module and deleted the module from the controller, and you've renamed the DST on the IO channel, you look in the Unassigned IO Reference and that DST name is still there. And you cannot deleted it.

That is because the module is still in its Plant Area and it has an IO referenced defined by this tag. This allows you to configure a DeltaV module, including its IO tags even if you don't have the IO defined in the system. Later you can drag the Unassigned IO tags to there correct IO channel and this will bind the hardware address to the IO block in the module.

To completely remove the tag, you'll have to either remove it from the module or delete the module from the database.

Also remember to download changed setup data to the Pro Plus to remove the module from the runtime system. This will update the module table and remove the module and the DST from the runtime database.
