Fieldbus H1 Series 2 Plus card Problem

Hi,

I am facing some problem with the H1 card. I have a 4 port card with redundancy. Some of my standby cards are rebooting at random intervals. By rebooting I mean First the Error LED comes up then all the LED's go off then Power LED comes up then all Ports LED flash and gets stable after some time. The same this occurs again after some interval. While all this happens, active is still Good. This Happens with few other cards on the same controller but at different intervals. Also while troubleshooting we have disconnected one device from the segment of one of the ports then all the devices in that port went to decommission mode, what might have caused this?

If it is a hardware problem why my multiple redundant cards are failing all at once. Can somebody tell me where should I look into? I am new to FieldBus please share your viewpoint.

  • 1.) Is this a running plant? I would check that controllers and IO cards are flashed to the recommended firmware revision.
2.) It could be a power supply issue. How are your segment power supplies hooked up and what is their rating?
3.) Or is the power coming by way of the H1 card? I know the later S-Series versions offer an integral PS as an option. Not sure how to troubleshoot, but a simple FF diagnostic tool like an FBT-6 might reveal deficiencies.
4.) Check for loose terminations or other physical defects like moisture. Are the faults coincidental with heavy rain, high temperature or vibration?
5.) Are you running ValveLink or other diagnostic software? I saw a KBA that cited issues with Series 2 H1 cards and ValveLink. Flashing to the latest firmware addressed the issue as I recall.
Hope this helps. Please let us know what you find . . .
