displays gets disordered after network reconnection

Hello,

We upgraded our system with Emerson help from DV11.3.1 to 14.3.1. We still to have use an iFix for a while.

Once we are logged via RDP to DV and we have a shot network disconnection, then our displays gets disordered and user is logged out, so we have to reset layout and logon to DV again. We have a lot of mobile workers with tablets, which are switching in between of access points, so it can be pretty annoying for them.

Before upgrade it was not the case. What is missing then? Our old computers are gone already, so we can't compare.

Regards

  • Hello,
We have the same issue, did you solve this problem ?
My solution for the moment is click on button opreset.

Some CTS were registered. Guardian users will probably receive a solution soon.

Did you call your local support for this issue ?

  • In reply to laurent maurer:

We haven't received any satisfying answer from Emerson. In many cases we were not able to click on reset layout button, so we decided to program one of tablets function keys to act as a "Home" button and in DV Operate we programmed "Home" key to reset layout

As it's a known issue , Emerson will probably fix this issue with an hotfix available for Guardian user. Unfortunetaly before this , you will have t manage with the only one known workaround consisting to reset layout.
  • In reply to LaurentB:

I'd not expect it will be fixed, as DV Operate will be replaced with DV Live. It was reported by me to Emerson a year ago and till now issue was not resolved (tested with WS_16 hotfix).

I'm not sure what you mean by the "Displays get disordered", but I think what you mean is that the display is not layed out properly, with sections seemingly in the wrong place or maybe parts of two displays are showing up?

I think this is an issue is with RDP, and not so much the DeltaV software, which runs on the RD Server Base license node. In v14 we moved to windows 10 and later version of RDP client as well. So to me that would explain why we are seeing a change on the RDP client side. I'm not sure if this would be any different with other software running on the Windows Server 2016 Session and the RDP clients.

On my system, I have VPN connection to the system and I connect to my RDP server. Once or twice a day, my VPN connection is lost briefly, which disconnects my RDP session. When it reconnects, I must log back into get my DeltaV privilege. This same disconnect happens when the Tablet moves to a new hotspot and a brief disconnect happens on the RDP session. I don't know if there are any settings that can be adjusted or if the WIFI network can be made more seamless. Some customers have deployed LTE wireless technology to avoid hotspot disconnects.

For mobile workers, the RAS stations avoid this as they do not use RDP sessions. The DeltaV software runs on the windows tablet or mobile device and the loss of comms could result in @@@@ signs, but the user remains logged on and the communication is resolved when the device connects to the new hotspot.

RDP works by slicing up the display and sending only the parts that change. This greatly reduces the amount of bandwidth needed to keep the client screen updated. When the connection is lost, the client may lose part of an update and the screen is partially updated, and as far as the source, the "missing" parts have not changed so they are not resent. This may be resolved and you need a later or matching version of the RDP client. Or not. I don't know your tablets, or what version of RDP client you are running and whether you are using virtualized servers, etc. In any case, I am just explaining that the RDP connection would explain why you are disconnected and displays are "scrambled?". By resetting the layout in Operate, the host redraws the entire screen, forcing an update to the client which aligns everything.

On my system, I'm using a Windows 10 Office PC to connect via RDP, on DeltaV v14.LTS. (aka v14.3.1) and I've never seen the "Disordered" displays. I do get the disconnect, which leaves Operate or Live running, but I've lost my DeltaV Privilege, and I have to redo the DeltaV logon, and select my session. The Network connections are an IT network issue. I'm not in a production role so it is only a minor inconvenience, likely because of how many now work from home, and the network was not designed with this many remote users.

I would suggest you confirm with the GSC what versions of RDP clients you are using and the RDP settings. You might discuss this with your IT folks as to what has changed in RDP between Windows 7 32 bit os and Windows 10 64 bit.

    Mr Dicaire

Yes, i had contact the local support.

    The answer is nothing.

    Sebastien,

We decided the samething than you, we used a dell rugged 7220 with the button 3.

We found a important thing, this percentage changes the résolution on the RDP application.
