Alarm list not populating with process alarms

Hi. I am at a site that has a "Maintenance Station" being used to drive projected displays on a large wall in a control room. One of the displays is an alarm list, but we are only seeing the maintenance-related alarms and not the process alarms. All the process areas are assigned to the station, as is AREA_A. Is there something with the station configuration that I am missing to get the alarms visible on the alarm list? The process graphics show alarms by changing color and blinking, but nothing on the alarm list. Any ideas would be appreciated - thanks.

  • Chris - the station has to be licensed for "Operate" for the DST's contained in the assigned areas. Are you logged in as admin or "maintainer"?
Version 13.x? DeltaV also has features that direct alarms according to identity, so for example device alarms are routed to maintenance and not ops, and vice-versa.
We have a "Maintenance" licensed station (albeit a remote desktop session) - I will try it on our system and see if it behaves the same.

Well, I bet it is the licensing. The station doesn't have the "Operations: 30000 DSTs" line in the licensing properties that the others do. Let me know if yours behaves the same way...
  • not certain I'm talking about the same problem. but if your alarms are not showing. open delta v explorer, on the left the drop down tree click on APP1 drop down click on alarms and events. all areas assigned to the app station which populates maintenance and process alarms are here if the area that is not showing alarms is not in that list. just go to the left grab the area and drop it in the contents of alarms and events. if this isn't your problem I apologize lol just how I read it and had the same type of issues.

John is correct, the Maintenance Station, by design does not show Process Alarms, and so these alarm lists will be empty.

For a while now (v11 at least) workstations are no longer "sized", and are either Full Span, or zero span, or view only. The View Only license appeared in v12.3. Note that both Zero span and view only do not display process alarms in alarm lists.

The Maintenance Station allows for parameter writes, based on assigned areas and User privileges. It does not present Process Alarms, which makes it unsuitable for Operator stations. It cost less for this reason.

It looks like if you wish to display active alarms, you would need to license the station as full span.

I'm not sure what the difference between Zero Span and View Only licenses. Zero Span existed prior to v12, so you would need this on v11 or earlier instead of View Only. View Only has limitations on what supplementary functionality you can add. Hopefully someone can fill in the gaps. I've asked the factory for clarification.
