DeltaV Excel Add-in Installation V13.3.1

I am troubleshooting Excel add-in access for a laptop that is installed on the intranet outside the DeltaV network. Previously we have not had any problems running DeltaV reporter outside the DeltaV network in the site intranet. The only caveat is that the Windows user credentials must have a matching DeltaV user created for the App Station with the same password. We upgraded to DeltaV 13.3.1 from 11.3.1 last year. DeltaV reporter Excel-add in continued to function at that time without any adjustments. Recently he was upgraded to a Windows 10 machine and is running Excel for Office 365, 32 bit, and the old DeltaV reporter no longer functions. I am trying to run the install for the new Excel add-in supplied with DeltaV 13.3.1, but I get an error message when running the install file, "DeltaV required for addin installation. Setup will now exit"

My question is, what is the recommended way to set up Excel Add-in for a computer outside the DeltaV network for version 13.3.1? Does anyone have experience installing on computers outside the DeltaV network?

  • I should add that the computer having the Excel Addin issue is running Windows 10
  • I had the same issue. The recommended action is to not use Excel Add-in on Non-DeltaV computers. What??!??

Yes, although the Product Data Sheet does not explicitly state it, the Excel Add-in is intended for DeltaV workstations, and looks for DeltaV to be installed. I does not say it will not work on external PC, but as you've found out, it will not install.

So, I copied the DeltaV installation registry keys into my non DeltaV PC, and I was able to Install Excel Add-in. I then installed OPC remote on my PC to point it to my DeltaV OPC Server. Now I'm in OPC authentication hell and I don't know what specifically DeltaV Excel Add In is looking for to connect.

Here's the deal. Excel Add In comes with a 500 OPC server license that you can assign to any Operator/Pro station. Not needed if you use it on an Appstation. So I figure it is hard coded to the local OPC.DeltaV.1 server that exists on every DeltaV workstation, and you unlock with the Excel Add in license.

I did use the DeltaV Reporter Excel Add in and that allows me to connect to the Historian, but does not have runtime access to other data. The supported application is DeltaV Reporter on non-DeltaV computers.

One other requirement is that Excel be locally installed. The installation looks for the applicable Excel registry entries and these are not present if you use Office 365. I found a statement that it would not be tested in v14, so not before v15, maybe.

I am not recommending that you hack the registry to get Excel add in installed as you will have an unsupported solution and no one to help you get it working (I haven't got it working). I'm thinking there must be an EXCEL OPC addin developed by a third party that will work. That is my next move, (if I can't get my hack to work).

so to save you time, which is money, try a reputable third party. that might cost you $1000. I can't recommend one yet.

Interesting and disappointing. Thanks for the information! I think Matrikon may have such a product for OPC excel links- but I'm not familiar with it.

I represent SyTech, a partner Company of Emerson who produce XLReporter. Our product XLReporter populates workbooks/sheets from templates built in our Design Studio or Excel. No deployment of Excel to produce workbooks/worksheet/PDF/web pages automatically.

The product can be installed on the DeltaV system or outside the DeltaV network to access data from Continuous historian. Matching accounts will still be required and OPC core components. Visit www.sytech.com for more information. Would gladly provide a demonstration.
