M5+ controller replacement during upgrade to DeltaV 12.3.1

Hi my dear friends

I try to upgrade the DCS to DeltaV 12.3.1 that their controllers are M5+ . I want to do offline upgrade and after completing the upgrade I will do the workstations replacement.

My problem is that I have to replace all controllers to. How I have to do that?  I mean when I replace the controllers what I need to do in the DeltaV explorer? Is there any DeltaV KBA to help me in this case?

best regards

  • If they are simplex, you must first secommisson the controller. Then replace that hardware and commission the new controller to that place holder in Explorer.

If installing with MQ you need to be at v12.3 or have the hotfix installed in v11.3.1.

For redundant controllers you can replace the standby unit. The active controller will communicate with the Pro Plus and commission the new standby. Once the standby is available and configured, you can switch over and replace the other controller. Of course you can also decommission a redundant controller and replace both M5+, and commission the node.

Be sure to apply all hotfixes to the Pro Plus and flash all controllers to the revision of DeltaV.

Make sure you have reviewed the release notes and develop a migration plan. I suggest you involve your local Emerson service provider as they will have valuable experience in planning and performing upgrdes
