Cisco Switch to DeltaV Smart Switch

I am trying to use a Cisco 2960 switch for a maintenance station. On the other end of the fiber is a DeltaV Smart switch. I have verified the fiber is good and I have a link light on the Cisco SFP. However I cannot get the link light to show on the DeltaV smart switch. I have configured the Cisco in accordance to the tech note I found on Guardian and I have verified the Smart Switch is unlocked. I have verified the SFP I am using on the Cisco switch is for Single Mode fiber and the expansion module in the Smart switch is for Single mode.

Has anyone been able to get this configuration to work? I am thinking there is something on the DeltaV switch that is not allowing this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Marty,
there might be a couple more things to check to make sure the comms can be implemented correctly. I'd recommend you to contact GSC for support, but if you could share the part numbers for the Cisco SFP, the DeltaV Smart Switch expansion module VE# and the settings you have at the Cisco switch, I may be able to point you out to the proper direction. The issue could be related to fiber connection mismatch, speed mismatch, duplex mismatch, fiber type mismatch (long-haul to simple single mode), etc.

    Hello Marty,

In the interface of the cisco switch where you're going to make the connection can you try "switchport mode dynamic" and "no switchport nonegotiate"

    Good Luck,

    Dominic
  • In reply to Dominic Sabio:

    Marty,

from your description the issue is based on speed and fiber type mismatch. On all your attempts each switch was using transceivers not compatible with each other. Below is a summary of the components you listed earlier on:

    1) VE6049M03 is a module applicable to VE6048 DeltaV Smart Switches with eight 100Mbps single-mode fiber ports (not long-haul)
    2) Cisco GLC-LH-SMD is a SFP transceiver module that handles 1Gbps single-mode fiber (long-haul)
    3) VE6050T06 is a DeltaV Smart Switch SFP transceiver module that handles 100Mbps single-mode standard (not long-haul)
    4) Cisco GLC-GE-100FX is a SFP transceiver module that handles 100Mbps multi-mode fiber

I can't find a way to make any combination using 1, 2, 3, 4 above that would allow you to establish proper communications between the Cisco switch and the DeltaV Smart Switch using the fiber you have. You need to define what type of fiber you want to use and then select either SFP transceiver modules or media modules that would suit your needs.

Please refer to the DeltaV Smart Switches product datasheet for supported media modules and SFP transceiver modules ordering information.
Please refer to www.Cisco.com for additional information about Cisco supported SFP transceiver modules.

    I hope this helps!

    Alexandre Peixoto
  • You'll need this SFP in the Cisco GLC-FE-100LX = "100BASE-LX10 SFP module for 100-Mb ports, 1310-nm wavelength, 10 km over SMF"

Guys you nailed it thank you. I am used to having a Cisco SFPs on both ends and the "LH" option never crossed my mind. And I am not sure where I got the MM SFP because all I use at the plant is SM fiber. Thanks again for your helps on this matter.
