Logic Solver 1508 firmware

I have redundant logic solver 1508 (SLS) in the safety system. The standby logic solver was failed. I want to replace by the new one. However I am afraid of the firmware difference between the active SLS and the new one.

Anyone who has experience or knowledge, please advise.

  • Please check the firmware of new SLS by placing SLS into spare carrier position, if SLS have same firmware revision like old one then you can replace it without any problem.

If you have new(Latest revision then what you have) revision then, download newer firmware setup file from guardian support or Emerson support website and install it in one of your engineering system and upgrade new SLS to get latest revision(3.3.0.2 is the latest for now)(Upgradation purpose please use some spare carrier slot) , and place this SLS into faulty SLS position and wait for some time to synchronize both SLS's, and do redundancy switchover, in this time standby(Old active SLS) will blinks in standby LED(means SLS have different revision). Now remove standby SLS(Old active logic solver) and put into spare carrier position and upgrade this one also into new firmware revision and place this SLS into it's old position.

    Thank venky.
What happen if I replace without upgrading the firmware?
I am not at site currently, only technician is working offshore.

If both SLS firware matches then no problem other wise redundancy won't work, if both have different revision then better to upgrade both to latest revision, this upgradation process don't affect any process disturbance for 95% if use spare carrier slot(5% chances are there to reboot SLS when it's in simplex condition)
