Flagged with Blue Triangles when uploading

Hi All,

Experienced this before when uploading thru "Control Studio" or the Control Module is assigned in a Workstation.

now my question, is this a normal behavior? (blue triangles doesn't clear unless download is performed)

Thanks,

Gelo

  • Hi Gelo,

Can you please provide us with further information? Do the blue triangles only appear after you have performed an upload or have assigned the control module to the workstation? Generally speaking the blue triangles indicate a difference between the controller contents and the contents in the offline database contained on the ProPlus. Sometimes this can be cleared by simply asking the controller or workstation to update the download status which is an option on the right mouse click in DeltaV Explorer.

    Kind regards

  • Uploading from Control Studio does do that, it is rather annoying. To avoid this upload by going to the module assignment under the controller and then right clicking to upload. You can also upload an entire controller and still avoid the blue triangles, watch out for the tricky dialog box asking "if you want to select parameters for upload" Always select "Yes" (or Cancel).

Blue triangle appear right after parameters were uploaded thru "Control Studio". Also if the Module is assigned in a workstation and upload is performed

That's what i got from GSC as well. ever since then i had to find the module where it is assigned then upload. I was thinking maybe it was a glitch since you should only flagged with Blue Triangle if Controller and Offline database are differenet

First, the Change Flag is set because the Control Studio session is ended by Saving the module. If you perform an upload within the Control Studio session, this marks the module as modified by the Control Studio Session when you exit and save. If you upload, but then exit without saving, the Change flag will not be set. I confirmed this on a v12 system using an alarm limit parameter.

Note that if you open and save a module and make no change, the Change Flag with "?" is set, but this clears if you "Update Download Status". If you make any change and save, the change flag is set and download is required. The Upload action within the Control Studio session is a change and it is the control studio SAVE action that sets the flag, not the upload.

To upload from control Studio without setting the Change Flag, Exit Control Studio without Saving.

what about if the module is assigned in the workstation. I was also flagged before and it was due to the module being assigned in the workstation.

I did some more testing, and I have to retract my earlier statement. If you do not save the module after upload the uploaded values are not saved to the Database.

When the upload has been performed in control studio, the value has been moved from the xxxx.IMP file to the xxxx.PWU file in the power up directory, ensuring that if a cold restart were to occur, the parameter would be restored to the uploaded value. However, because the Upload was done within Control Studio, the value is not passed on to the database until you save the module. At that point, the Change flag is set because of a change in Control Studio. The database is not aware that the upload was used to update the Control Studio session. The Database is updated by control Studio, which passes the uploaded value to the database, and sets the change flag.

So, if you upload via Control Studio, you must save the module to place the uploaded values in the database. Saving the module sets the Change Flag. The behavior is the same on Controller and Workstation modules.
