OPC question

I have an offline proplus running simulate and just added an application station to the network.  I have moved all history collection to the application station.  Using an OPC client on the application station, I can browse the proplus DeltaV OPCDA server just fine but when I try to browse the application station OPC server, I get an error that I can't open it for browsing.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Dan,

What kind of error you got? Server initiated failed? Try to browse Apps OPC server via your proplus. You can also use third party OPC client (i.e matrikon), then compare the result with opcwathit got.

I'm able to create a connection to the OPC.DELTAV.1 server on the application station.  However,  upon connecting to it with a client, I receive an error that the server isn't browseable and I can't look at anything.  When I do make the same connection to the OPC.DELTAV.1 server on the Proplus, it connects and lets me browse.

  • In reply to Dan:

May be user rights related. Are you using DeltaV account for browsing?

  • In reply to Dan:

Normally this kind of problems are related to user launching the client application. Be sure that user exists on the OPC Server computer and has the same password in both computers. That user has to be a deltav user with access rights on areas you want to browse.

  • In reply to gamella:

Also, check that your Application station is licensed. ProPlus is licensed with 250 tags I believe by default. On other stations you have to assign a license.
  • In reply to Lun.Raznik:

Application stations also come with 250 OPC DA license that you can increase.

Looks like your DeltaV Services Account is not properly setup in your client. Make sure the the user rights on the DCOM configuration has the DeltaVAdmin User on it
  • When using an OPC client through an interactive session on a DeltaV node, you actually have to be logged into the DeltaV application (not just windows) with a properly authorized user to get into the local OPC server. This same restriction does not apply when using the interactive OPC client to connect to the server on another system. Are you logged into the DeltaV application as a user with keys to the areas you wish to access on the app station when you launch the OPC client?

Looks it was launched back up recently by expert, . Sometimes you will see this if there is a new solution to a old problem. We are nothing if not thorough, right ? :)
