I/O upgrade

Hi

Is it necessary to upgrade I/O cards (firmware) during DeltaV upgrade? I see in document, I/O cards work in all version.

Thanks

  • If you are upgrading to a newer DeltaV version and there is a newer version of I/O firmware, it is highly recommended to flash you I/O card to that version. One Primary reason is there could be new features that required the new flash code. There are codes that are constantly checking for info. If the system or I/O don't respond to a certain command, this could possibly cause an unknown error or problem. It may work until the new feature is excercise.
Note: some time there is not a new firmware to upgrade. The system will let you know and give you a choice. In this case, you can chose not to flash the I/O card since it has the latest one.

It means, when we replace faulty card or add new one also, we need to check the version and upgrade it before use ( if necessary).
    Thanks

Yes, that is what you need to do. I have personal experience with IO cards that are not at the correct firmware revision (up or down) being installed in systems and causing problems. A best practice would be to have an offline DeltaV system to flash the spare IO cards to the version that your production system is running on so that you will always have the hardware with the corrent firmware available.
