Backup and Recovery - Restoration of DC's

When DeltaV contains redundant DC's how does the B&R application handle restoring those DC's?  From experience, if I restore a DC from an earlier date, the active DC will refuse to replicate as the SID timestamps are wrong.  I end up having to restore both, powering down until both restored, then powering on the original active one before powering up the member DC.

Anyone else had issues restoring DC's? Is there a correct procedure?

The DeltaV Backup and Recovery Planning Guide discusses "Disk imaging, Domain Controllers, Active Directory and USN Rollback"

    http://www3.emersonprocess.com/Systems/Support/documentation/deltav/docvue/DeltaV%20Backup%20and%20Recovery/D800067X012.pdf

Here is the excerpt from the document:

    • In the backup plan you create to back up a domain controller, select the Use Volume Shadow Copy Service(VSS) option and set the snapshot provider to Software – System provider.

    • Back up the domain controller no less frequently than half the Active Directory tombstone lifetime

    • Create a backup immediately after any of the following events: Moving the Active Directory database and/or log to a different location
Upgrading the operating system or installing a service pack on a domain controllero Installing a hotfix that changes the Active Directory databaseo Changing the Active Directory tombstone lifetime administratively

    • Do not specify any of the Active Directory database files (.dit, .chk, .log) in the list of files to exclude from a backup.

    • When recovering a backup file with selected drives (usually the C: and D: drives for DeltaV), select Volume in the recovery plan and include the Master Boot Record (MBR). If recovering a backup file with all drives, select Disk in the recovery plan.

    • After recovering a ProfessionalPLUS workstation configured as a domain controller, perform ActiveDirectory replication from the current active domain controller to the ProfessionalPLUS workstation.

    • For new user accounts that were not included in the backup file, start User Manager and enable the DeltaVDatabase Account option

Thanks Youssef, some good pointers to be aware of then, especially the tombstone duration.

From what I comprehend, it does seem the backup order is important, given that the PRO+ is the active DC at time of backup, then restoring it with the other DC as active would normally generate errors. Does the planning guide elude to anything in that respect?

FYI, that link seems to be down.

The planning guide points you to the Acronis documents for more details.
The link was broken when I tried it too, so I was looking at the cached version. I dig a little digging and found the new home of the document (replaced spaces with "_"....nice touch)
