Using AI 16 CH Active Cards for some 4 wires signals

Dear All,

in my project, some signals have been added that generated by analyzers. these signals are 4 wires (it means DCS cards should be Passive), but i have only some AI cards 16 CH with 2 wires Terminal Block ( Active AI Card).

is it possible to use the existing AI modules (Active AI Cards) for these kind of signals? if Yes, how can i use the 16 CH AI cards for 3 wires signals?

Thanks and Regards

Pouya

  • You would need some sort of isolation barrier or converter to relay the 4 wire signal to a 2 wire signal for use on the AI card.

    HI,

YES, you can use them you connect the Analog measure + signal to the Even numbers (- ) and connect the measure - wire to the shielding bar.

You feed the suplly from some other place to the field device..

  • Given that the AI card also supplies power to the device, won’t this cause other problems if powered externally?

    HI,

YES, you can use them you connect the Analog measure + signal to the ODD numbers (- ) and connect the measure - wire to the shielding bar.

You feed the suplly from some other place to the field device..

    Hi,

when I have connected them like there has been no problems.

If you want it totally passive you have to change the base plate to the passive version..hmm 16..8 channels?

EDIT: You might have to have the supply from the same power source as the cards...Geeked

    Dear Niklas

    Thanks a lot

Hence for example, for channel 1,  i will connect the Signal (+) to Terminal Number 2 (NOT 1) and then connect the Signal(-) to shield bar, NOT to terminal number 2. am i right?

  • In reply to Pouya:

    Dear Pouya,

That is right, it should work if you field equipment isn´t using some odd voltage in analog loop. (e.g. Siemens s7-1200 AO is 15 volts max... ).

Connect one loop and see if it works.

Very Good, Many, Many Thanks Niklas.

i will inform you about my test.

In case this question was raised for an M-series 16 Channel AI Card, we have a new Terminal block available which will be able to deal with a 4-wire Transmitter,

in the same straight  forward way, like for a 2-wre Transmitter !
