Hi,
We are planning to have underscores "_" in the names or DeltaV workstations and controllers but someone suggested that it may create problems.
Does anyone know about this? Until now, I got the information that it could be problem in the case of workstations if we are using web-based solutions (PlantWeb Messenger, etc.). Is this true? Does it also affect controllers?
Thanks,
Istvan
Hmm... remeber something that it was server 2003 who didn´t like the underscore ?????
Personally I have changed the names in upgrades ?? But you do as you wan´t
There is some information somewere ,,? found something in the release notes
"Domain NameIf your DeltaV domain name contains the underscore (_) character, a message will be displayed indicating thatsome DNS server products may not support that character. However, DeltaV does support an underscore (_)in the domain name. Therefore, you can proceed with the installation. However, if the DeltaV system will be used with a web service (for example, DeltaV Web Server or DeltaVAnalyze), the domain name must not contain an underscore."
"Note
that Microsoft IIS does not support workstation names containing an underscore ( _ ) where a DeltaV workstation otherwise allows it."
"Workstation NameThe workstation name should be in UPPERCASE. DeltaV Workstation Configuration forces the change ifnamed in lowercase, however this can cause issues with Windows OS which does not recognize the namechange."

There is a reason you will never find an underscore in a website URL... the Microsoft IIS system (used for web services) just can't deal with it. If you would ever want to install a product on a DeltaV application station that requires the use of IIS services to serve up Internet Explorer pages, like DeltaV Analyze, I would advise you to consider another character for the node name. The naming rules for workstations were determined long before anyone anticipated enabling web services on a workstation and had we recognized this issue up front I suspect we would have disallowed underscores in the name. Controllers are not affected by this issue.
