Hey guys!
would anybody know of a device that monitors power consumption and converts it to pulses to display on Delta V?
Thanks!
If I am right, I think this ability has "standard" energy meter.
In reply to Radomir Pistek:
Do you mean that Energy meters in general provide this capability?
I am trying to find out what kind of devices I should use to display a power reading whilst being able to communicate with Delta V
Thanks for your reply!
In reply to ohHai:
This way should be expensive ( Meter with pulse output + DeltaV card with pulse input and especially regarding licences side ).
I think will be good idea to find meter with communication possibility ( i.e. ModBus RTU ). There is easier installation I hope ( possible to have one communication loop between meters in case of proper distance ). In this case you still have issue with licensing side ( means each measurement one AI DST ). I think this can be solved thru any "gateway" - several modbus links are concentrated to one gateway = one communication link to DeltaV serial card. In the proper configuration on the "gateway" side you will be able to add up to 100 measurement to one dataset = one AI DST ). This is good way how to reduce price for solution regarding licence side.
But at the end small idea - try to check "wireless" solution with interface to modbus ( Emerson doesn´t have this possibility, but there exists 3rd party solution use google ). This is maybe good solution in case of large solution ( several areas ).
I hope there will be in the future any Emerson solution how to connect energy meters to wireless gateway ( for me it is only analog input connection to DeltaV ). This can enhanced our wireless portfolio and wireless solution generally. Maybe is time to develop any energy meter for this application.
Hope this helps :-).
Hi OhHai
Most of Relays have modbus communication facility (ABB, Micom,..) , You can use this capability. In addition you can use CT and PT plus transducer to convert the output of CT(PT) to 4-20 ma.

you can refer below link.

Hi Radomir,
Thanks for taking the time to help!
I am not too worried about the cost as i have the Delta V station set up with the DI pulse counter installed. The licence is not a problen either.
How do you mean "wireless" solution? could you be more percise? thanks.
Also with regard to "gateway" is this several devices are connected to a modbus then one link sends the readings into Delta V?
Thanks for your help!
Niall.
Thanks for helping Mohsen!
I have very little experience with this as I am only starting out, when you say "modbus communication facility" I dont understand what you are saying here.
I got ya with the 4 to 20 alright, as in send a 4 to 20 to AI and display that on Delta V.
In reply to dpwu:
hello Dpwu.
Thanks for your reply! Would that device pass a 4 to 20 to delta v or would it work of pulses?
Regarding wireless serial link you can check next solution:

http://miinet.com/whatsnew/news_releases/09027a.shtml
This device ( according picture in the article ) is able to connect 2 communication loops / links ( RS232/422/485 ) and connect them wirelessly to different location - form more information about possibilities try to contact manufacturer directly ( also regarding supported protocols ).

Hi ohHai
If you have Protection relay in MCC (motor control Center) or power distribution system , you can use smart relay with modbus option.
You can check these links for guidelines.

if you want to measure energy only , search "energy meter modbus" in google.
Here is some example
